Your Windows PC might be designed to make your life easier, but they often have a non-stop list of problems. Today we'll walk through some of the more common problems and how to troubleshoot them.
This list is, of course, by no means complete, and you should always use best practices to make sure that your PC doesn't need to be reinstalled all the time, is properly secured with anti-virus and a firewall, and is properly backed up at all times—but if you're currently having problems, keep reading for a list of common problems and troubleshooting techniques.
PC Won't Boot Into Windows
Try Safe Mode First
When your PC just won't boot into Windows at all, you'll probably want to start off with Safe Mode—use the F8 key right when the system starts up to access the menu and see if Windows will boot into Safe Mode. If you're able to get into Windows, the problem is likely something that would load only when you boot normally—graphics card drivers, junk applications, or perhaps some spyware applications.
Even Safe Mode Doesn't Work
If you can't even get into Safe Mode, you should use the Startup Repair tools, which can be accessed from the Advanced options in the Safe Mode menu; you can pull out your system repair disc, or your Windows installation disc and use the Repair option. If you're having a bootloader problem that says "bootmgr is missing", you can use the command prompt from an installation CD and use the bootrec /fixboot command.
Use System Restore
System Restore in Windows XP might not have been the greatest tool, but since Windows Vista came around, it's been an excellent choice for fixing up all sorts of problems, including issues that cause your system to not boot anymore. While testing, I once deleted a bunch of files in system32 to purposely cause a blue screen of death, and then used System Restore to get the system up and running again in minutes. If you're unfamiliar with the process, you can follow this step-by-step guide to restoring your PC with System Restore.
Try Booting Off an Ubuntu CD
Whenever I'm having issues with a PC not booting up properly, one of the first things I do is grab an Ubuntu Live CD and try and boot from that, and see how well the system is working. If everything is working in Linux, then you know the problem is likely just your Windows installation, and not hardware related.
PC Crashing or Blue Screening
When your PC is crashing with the blue screen of death at random intervals, you should make sure that you first disable the automatic reboot after the blue screen, and then write down the error message so you can Google it later. If you're able to get back into Windows, you can try using the previously mentioned BlueScreenView tool to give you some extra information about the error message, but your best bet is usually to do a search.
If you're using Windows 7 or later and you're getting a blue screen of death, chances are very high that the problem is either driver or hardware related—contrary to legend, Windows just doesn't crash like that very much unless the problem is tied to hardware somehow.
Once you've identified the driver causing the problem, try and head into Safe Mode and uninstall or upgrade the driver causing the problem—sometimes the driver won't be visible, so you'll need to use a command-line trick to show hidden devices in Device Manager. If you're doing a bunch of work in Safe Mode, sometimes it's helpful to force Windows to load into Safe Mode without using the F8 key every time.
No Luck? Recover Files and Reinstall
If you simply can't get anything else to work and you don't have a full backup, your best bet is to pull out an Ubuntu Live CD and back up files from your PC, and then start the process of reinstalling Windows again. If you're using the native Windows backup tools, you can restore your system from an image backup, or use the standard backup and restore process.

The latest version
of Office suite, Microsoft Office 2010, is undoubtedly the best productivity
suite out there for Windows. Office 2010 is available in four editions and is
compatible with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems.
Though
it is compatible with the good old Windows XP, users must be running a 32-bit version XP
with Service Pack 3 installed
to be able to install and run Office 2010. In simple words, Office 2010 can’t
be installed on Windows XP SP1 or
SP2.
When you try to run
the Office 2010 setup on Windows XP SP1 or SP2, you get “Setup is unable to
proceed due to the following error: To install and use this product, you must
be running one of the following operating systems: Windows 7, Vista SP1, XP SP3, Server 2003 SP2, Windows 7 (x64),
Vista SP1 (x64), Server 2008 x(x64). Correct the issue(s) listed above and
re-run the setup” message.
While
downloading and installing Service Pack 3 is not a difficult task, many Windows
XP users still running SP2 for various reasons. Windows XP users who can’t
upgrade to SP3 and still want to install Office 2010 will be glad to know that
Office 2010 can be installed on XP SP2 as well with a small workaround. The
only condition is that you must be running x86 version of XP.
Follow the instructions given below to install your favorite
Office 2010 on Windows XP SP2:
Step 2: In the Registry
editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
Step 3: On the right-side,
double-click on CSDVersion and change its value from 200 to 300.
Step 4: Close the Registry editor.
Reboot the machine and then run Office setup to begin installing Office 2010.
You should now be able to install without any issues. Once installed, navigate
to the same registry key and then change the value back to 200.

We all have seen
the splash screen that appears whenever we launch a Microsoft Office program.
Be it Word, Excel, PowerPoint or any other Office program, a splash screen
appears on the screen before actually starting the program. It looks pretty on
the first run but the same screen starts frustrating when you launch Office
programs again and again.
The splash screen
in the latest version of Office suite, Microsoft Office 2010, is useful in some aspects. It
displays all loading add-ones and other things and also lets you close the
program in the mid-way, without having to wait for the window to launch. But if
you run Office programs several times in a day, then watching the same splash
screen again and again for 3-5 seconds might frustrate you.
Users
who would like to get rid of the splash screen and speed up Office startup can
follow any one of the methods given below.
Method 1: The easiest way to
run an Office program without the splash screen. In this method, we use a
switch to launch an Office program without the splash screen.
# Open Start menu. In the
search box, type winword /q to launch the Office Word without the
splash screen.
# To open Excel
program without the splash screen, type excel /e and hit enter.
# To open PowerPoint
without the splash screen, type powerpnt /s and press enter.
Method 2: Users who would
like to create a shortcut of Office programs on the desktop can follow the
steps given below.
Step 1: Do a right-click on
the desktop, select New and then select Shortcut to launch Create shortcut
wizard.
Step 2: In the wizard,
under Type the location of the item box, enter the full path to the Office
program that you wish to launch without the splash screen. At the end of the
path, add the switch (see the list below).
For
example, if you want to create a shortcut of Office Excel 2010 on desktop and
path to excel.exe file is “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE”,
then the full path after typing switch will be:
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE” /e
(Here, /e is the switch for Excel)
Step 3: Click Next button,
enter a name for the shortcut and finally click on the Finish button to see the
shortcut on the desktop. Double-click on the new desktop shortcut to run the
program without splash screen.
Use /q switch
for Wordl, and /s for
PowerPoint programs.
Windows 7 gives users the ability to share files and folders with friends and family at home or with co-workers at the office. Whether your computer is connected to a homegroup, workgroup or domain on a specific network, folders and files can be shared. Windows 7 also has a File Sharing Wizard to help simplify the process, especially when sharing folders in the workplace

PIXEL SHADER 1.1 (AND LATER VARIANTS) ARE HARD-CODED INTO THE VIDEO CARD AND ITS DRIVERS. IF YOU HAVE A FAST PROCESSOR AND A GOOD AMOUNT OF RAM, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET AROUND THE PIXEL SHADER REQUIREMENT BY DOWNLOADING "3DANALYZE" AND "SWIFTSHADER 2.0" TO EMULATE PIXEL SHADER.
IT IS MORE ADVISABLE TO TRY TO USE A VIDEO CARD WHICH DIRECTLY SUPPORTS THE CAPABILITIES YOUR GAME OR APPLICATION IS DESIGNED FOR, HOWEVER, SWIFTSHADER IS NOT BAD IF YOU WANT TO TRY TO GET YOUR APP RUNNING TO AT LEAST GAUGE WHETHER A NEW VIDEO CARD INVESTMENT IS WORTH IT OR NOT. Introducing Microsoft DirectX® 11 - a major leap towards a whole new generation of HD gaming
Tessellation
Tessellation is a technology that has been around for a few GPU (graphics processing unit) generations. AMD has had Tessellation support since 2001, which was then called Truform; we also implemented Tessellation in the XBOX 360 GPU, then codenamed "Xenos". Tessellation is a feature which increases the number of polygons in an image. Basically, Tessellation enables a more lifelike image, both of objects and landscape. Back in the day characters who were CG (computer generated) looked very blocky, almost cartoon like; with the use of Tessellation, developers are now able to significantly increase the number of triangles to draw an image, thus creating a more lifelike quality in games.
Multithreaded Rendering
Multithreaded Rendering is a feature which allows DirectX to be processed via multiple CPU threads.
This means that a dual-, triple- or quad-core CPU can have a higher utilization across all cores than DirectX APIs in the past. Historically the OS would load up a single core for commands to the GPU, in essence creating an overload on the first core and under utilizing the additional cores. With only one core issuing commands to a GPU, we have seen CPUs hold back the potential performance of the GPU. With Multithreaded Rendering, DirectX will take better advantage of all the available cores. This should result in a better experience for the multi-core user because of a faster processing pipeline and increased scaling.
DirectComp
DirectCompute is a feature which allows access to the shader cores/pipeline for Stream Computing (graphics acceleration) type applications and physics acceleration. One of the biggest technology breakthroughs of the past 5 years has been the notion that processing can be moved from the traditional CPU to the much more parallel GPU. Simply put, the CPU manages tasks sequentially; it accomplishes a task then moves on to the next task in a very orderly fashion and with tremendous speed. Today's CPUs can work at speeds of up to 108.8 GigaFLOPS (Floatingpoint Operations Per Second).

Apple's iPad shipments for China nearly doubled in the third quarter, after Apple settled in July a lengthy dispute over the iPad trademark name that once threatened to ban the device from store shelves in the country.
Shipments of the tablet in the third quarter reached 2.07 million units, up from 1.15 million in the previous quarter, according to Dickie Chang, an analyst with research firm IDC. He attributed the shipment growth to Apple finally gaining ownership of the iPad trademark in China, which cleared the way for sales of the new product.
Apple's third generation iPad went on sale in China on July 20, four months after it was made available in the U.S. The launch was delayed as Apple got embroiled in a legal battle with Chinese firm Proview, which had registered for the "IPAD" trademark in China years before.
Proview had wanted Apple to pay as much as US$400 million for the trademark, and had called on authorities to ban iPad sales in the country. Finally, in early July, the two companies settled the dispute, with Apple paying $60 million to obtain the trademark from Proview.
The growth in iPad shipments further cements Apple's dominance of China's tablet market. After Apple, the next largest vendor is Lenovo, which shipped only 278,000 tablets in the third quarter. Samsung, the country's third top tablet vendor, moved 143,000 units.
Globally, Apple said iPad sales reached 14 million in the third quarter, a year-over-year increase of 26 percent. But in terms of worldwide market share, Apple's iPad fell to 50.4 percent, as shipments for Android tablets from Samsung and Amazon grew, according to research firm IDC.
Apple, however, will likely see better tablet sales in the fourth quarter, with the launching of its iPad mini and fourth generation iPad, said IDC.

Adobe Illustrator software is a vector graphics editor developed and marketed by Adobe Systems.
