Mobile Virus

The spread of mobile viruses is aided by two dominant communication protocols. First, a Bluetooth virus can infect Bluetooth-activated phones within a distance from 10 to 30m. Second, an MMS virus can send a copy of itself to all mobile phones whose numbers are found in the infected phone’s address book.

                                                                                 Bluetooth Virus

While an MMS virus follows a more delocalized pattern, given that the users’ address book often contains phone numbers of far away users.

Cyber criminals are currently spreading malware by sending a large number of email messages purporting to be from MMS gateway. These emails have the subject "You have received a new message" and claim that the recipient has been sent a picture message over MMS from a  customer. As always, users are advised to refrain from opening unsolicited attachments.

How to Solve Printer Problems?

A network printer asks you to put paper in the manual feed tray, even though your document doesn't require manual feed.

This is a printer driver issue. To fix it:

1-Go into the printer's menu, and reset it to the factory defaults.
2-Delete the old driver from the server. Install the correct driver (For HP printers, this will be the PCL5 CE version).
3-In the printer driver device dialog box, enable any special hardware installations such as an envelope feeder or duplexer.
4-Go to each computer that has access to that printer. Delete the old printer from the computer's printer and faxes listing, and install the printer again so that the   new driver is downloaded.

HP LaserJet printer that jams every time a job is sent to Tray
1- Pull the tray out. On the bottom, there may be a "switch" that allows the tray to raise properly. This switch is supposed to get "tripped" when you push the tray    in, but sometimes that doesn't happen.
2- Trip the switch and put the tray back in. It should print fine now.
Note: If there's no switch on bottom of the tray, you might have a electrical problem where the printer doesn't "sense" that the paper is at the right level. Check     with your local printer repair company.

Printer connected to another computer and it won't print
1- Printer cable is plugged in to both the PC and printer.
2- Printer is on and set to Ready status (not offline).
3- Printer has paper and toner.
4- The printer is set as the default printer in Printers and Faxes.
5- Check your computer disk space. If there isn't enough space for the print job to spool, it won't print.
6- See if you can print from a different application. If  the problem is with the application that won't   print.
7- Try printing from a notepad.exe file. If it doesn't print, delete the printer driver and reinstall it.

Peer to Peer Networks

  • The most basic type of network is a called a peer to peer network.
  • This type of network consists of several computers which are connected to each other.
  • The "network" consists of shared folders located on computers within the network.
  • These folders are set to a "shared" status, so that other people connected to the network can access them. Each shared folder is accessed by the users of the network, who set up a certain drive letter (say H:) as a "pointer" to the shared folders on other computers.
  • In addition, any printers connected to any computer can be shared to other network users.

Detect and Repair disk Errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans for file system errors.Should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

How to run the error checking utility?
1. Click Start, and then click Computer.
2. Right-click the hard disk  you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
Click the Check Now button.
4. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7)
5. Click the Check Now button
6. Select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click  start.

Clean A Flat Screen Monitor

Flat screen monitors, whether in LCD, LED, or plasma form, are a little different than their CRT cousins when it comes to cleaning. Your standard CRT monitor has a glass screen and can be cleaned in pretty much the same way as you would any other glass in your home or office.

Flat screen monitors, however, require a bit of special care when cleaning. Their displays are much more sensitive and are easily scratched and damaged. The same applies to your flat screen television.

Let's Pakar Pc show you a simple step.
  1. Turn off the monitor. If the screen is dark, it will be easier to see the areas that are dirty or oily.
  2. Use a dry, soft cloth and very gently wipe the screen. A great choice would be the microfiber type of cloth used to clean eyeglasses.
See Tip #1 below for kinds of cloths to avoid
     3.  If the dry cloth did not completely remove the dirt or oil, do not press harder in an attempt to
          scrub it off.
Pushing directly on the screen can often cause pixels to burn out.

     4.  If necessary, dampen the cloth with distilled water or with an equal ratio of distilled water
to white vinegar. Many companies also sell small spray bottles of special cleaner for flat
screen    monitors but the vinegar mixture is usually just as effective.
See Tip #2 below for products to avoid.

     5.  The plastic edge that surrounds the screen can be cleaned with any multipurpose cleaner but take
care to avoid contact with the screen itself.

Tips:
  1. Avoid using paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, or something like your shirt to wipe the screen. These non-ultrasoft materials can scratch the display.
  2. Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, ethyl alcohol, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride. These chemicals can react with the materials that the flat screen is made of which could yellow the screen or cause other kinds of damage.
  3. Never spray liquid directly on an LED, LCD, or plasma screen. It could run inside the monitor and cause damage.
"GOOD LUCK"

Enable Hibernation on Windows 8

Hibernation is enabled but hidden by default on the new Metro style power menu.  You can hibernate at command prompt by typing in shutdown.exe -h but sometimes clicking a button is much easier and faster. This article will help you display the Hibernate option next to the Sleep, Shutdown and Restart options.

  1. Open the Start Screen and type in powercfg.cpl and hit Enter.
  2. On the Power Options screen, select Choose what the power buttons do on the side menu.
  3. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the window and check Hibernate.

     5.  Click Save changes.
That’s it. Now your Power menu will also have a hibernate option listed.

Speedy 8Gbit, 16Gbit SATA Express systems coming this year

The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) Thursday announced that the ratification process has started for SATA Express, which standardizes PCI Express (PCIe) as an interface for client storage.

The specification is now under review by SATA-IO members. It’s expected to be available for review by the general public later this year.

The specification will define new device and motherboard connectors that support both new SATA Express and current SATA devices.

The SATA Express starndard utilizes a new connector defined by SATA-IO to enable a device with a PCIe interface to be in a hard disk drive form-factor. “So while such a PCIe device operates with PCIe protocol and signaling, the host would need a SATA Express host connector to connect to the PCIe device,” said Paul Wassenberg, SATA-IO Marketing Workgroup Chair.

Additionally, the SATA-IO specs define a SATA Express host as able to support either PCIe or SATA devices (drives), Wassenberg added.

SATA Express enables a client storage ecosystem that can include both SATA and PCIe protocols.

PCIe technology enables interface speeds of up to 1GB/s per client lane, versus today’s SATA technology speeds of up to 0.6GB/s.

The SATA Express specification will enable development of new devices that can utilize the PCIe interface and maintain compatibility with existing SATA applications. The technology, SATA-IO claims, will provide a cost-effective means to increase device interface speeds to 8Gb/s and 16Gb/s.

The new spec will be particularly useful in opening up bandwidth for new solid-state and hybrid drives, which are already pushing up against the limits of current SATA interfaces with I/O, SATA-IO said.

“This industry-wide effort has made a new level of performance available to client applications and enables connectivity to SATA Express enterprise hosts via the SFF-8639 multifunction connector,” said SATA-IO president Mladen Luksic, in a statement.

How to use msconfig

Built into Windows is a special tool called the "Microsoft System Configuration Utility" or simply "msconfig" Designed to help you troubleshoot problems with your computer, msconfig can also be used to ensure that your computer boots faster and crashes less. Most people know that the more programs you have running on your computer at once, the more likely it is that your computer will either run slowly or even crash. What most people don't know is that every time you boot your computer a whole mess of "hidden" programs load in the background. Some of these hidden programs are essential, but most aren't. Turning off some of these hidden programs can significantly increase your computer's performance and reliability.

Here is how to use msconfig in Windows 7 to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load on start-up. Disabling these programs will help your computer boot faster and crash less.

1. Click on the Windows 7 start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type msconfig in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the
msconfig program that appears in the search results.

3. Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically
loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.

In Windows 7, allmost all of Windows' essential programs are loaded through something called "Windows Services." This means that most of the startup items you see in Windows 7 are completely optional and can be turned off. However, a good rule of thumb is to disable only those programs that you recognize and don't need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on.

Here's a good example. On my computer I have installed Apple's Quicktime player. For some reason or other, Quicktime decided that it should always be running on my computer even when I am not using the program. That's silly. To prevent Quicktime from automatically starting every time I boot my computer, I ran msconfig and unchecked "Quicktime." That's it. Remember, disable only those programs that you recognize and don't need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on.

5. Click on the OK button.

6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.

7. That's it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

And if you ever want to turn on any of the startup items you disabled with msconfig, just run msconfig again.
